- Lettuce prefers cool weather. Select a location with full sun, or part shade in hot areas. Sow in early spring, or fall/winter in mild climates. Keep soil evenly moist for best growth. Thin regularly. Lettuce does not like to be crowded.
- Snip young leaves as needed. Allow the strongest plants to form tight heads and harvest by cutting close to the ground.

This home garden favorite butterhead lettuce is crisp and delicious, with rich green leaves and a creamy center. Buttercrunch is heat tolerant and bolt resistant. It won an All American Selections award in 1963.
