Sansevierias, also known as snake plants or mother-in-law’s tongue, are beloved for their upright, sculptural leaves and low-maintenance nature.
These hardy plants thrive on neglect, tolerate low light, and purify indoor air.

Light
Tolerates low to bright indirect light. Prefers bright, indirect light for fastest growth. Can adapt to some direct sun.

Watering
Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly – every 2–4 weeks depending on light and season. Overwatering is the most common cause of issues.

Humidity
Average household humidity is fine.
No additional humidity needed.

Temperature
Ideal range: 60–85°F. Keep away from cold drafts and temps below 50°F.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Can also use regular potting mix with added perlite or sand.

Fertilizing
Feed 1–2 times during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer. No feeding needed in fall or winter.

Repotting
Every 2–3 years or when rootbound. Sansevierias prefer being slightly root-bound.

Pruning & Cleaning
Trim damaged or old leaves at the base. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them clean and glossy.

Pet Safety
Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Can cause nausea, vomiting, or drooling.

Common Problems
Yellowing leaves/a soft mushy base is an indication of overwatering causing root rot from excess moisture.

Common Pests
