Monstera Deliciosa Care
Monstera deliciosa, also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant, is a tropical showstopper famous for its bold, split leaves.
It’s fast-growing, easygoing, and adds instant jungle vibes to any space.
Great for intermediate plant parents, Monstera thrives with bright light, moderate watering, and room to grow.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Tolerates some filtered sunlight. Too little light = leggy growth; too much = scorched leaves.

Watering
Water when the top 2–3" of soil are dry. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity
Loves moderate to high humidity. Benefits from misting or a nearby humidifier. Dry air can cause brown edges.

Temperature
Ideal range: 65–85°F (18–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and temps below 55°F.

Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well.

Fertilizing
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Pause fertilizing in fall and winter.

Repotting
Every 1–2 years or when roots outgrow the pot. Best repotted in spring.

Pruning & Cleaning
Trim yellow or damaged leaves at the base. Prune to shape or control size. Wipe large leaves clean to boost photosynthesis.

Pet Safety
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and vomiting.

Common Problems
Yellow leaves = overwatering or root damage. Brown tips = low humidity or inconsistent watering. No splits in new leaves = low light or young plant.

Common Pests
Watch out for spider mites, mealybugs, scale, and thrips.

Fun Fact
In the wild, Monsteras climb trees using aerial roots—indoors, they love moss poles or trellises!
