Parakeet Care Sheet

About Parakeets
Parakeets (budgies) are tiny and beautiful members of the parrot family, originally found in the dry grasslands of Australia. These cheerful companions are capable of living a long and healthy life if given the kind of care they deserve and need.
Parakeet Max Size: 7 Inches Lon
Parakeet Life Span: 8-10 Years
Habitat Requirements for a Parakeet
A cage approximately 18” x 18” with a variety of size appropriate toys. Toys should vary in shape, color and texture to stimulate the bird’s interest. Rotate toys about every two weeks.
Parakeet Diet
Specialized pellet diets are highly recommended and should consist of 60-70% of the diet. Use fortified seeds in moderation as they are higher in fat and less nutritious than pellets. Offer fresh fruits and vegetables.
Parakeet Toxins: Avocados, mushrooms, chocolate, alcohol, and caffeine. Also, fumes from Teflon cookware.
Water: Give clean, fresh water to your Parakeet daily.
Signs of Illness
Lack of activity, sitting on the bottom of the cage for extended period of time, a “fluffed” appearance. If these are observed, take your bird to the vet.
